In many manger scenes we see a lamb draped around the shoulders of a shepherd, most likely to identify the characters in the scene. Was a lamb really there? Were some of the first sounds Jesus heard as a baby the bleating of a little white lamb—belligerent at being plucked up, rushed through the town streets at night, and welcomed into a dingy stable?
The spotless Lamb of God, quietly
submitting to being plucked from Heaven’s
throne to a destiny of stumbling through the streets
under a cross.
Did the lamb see the Lamb? Did they both cry?
