Author Frederick Buechner wrote,
“Turn around and believe that the good news that we are loved is better than we ever dared hope, and that to believe in that good news, to live out of it and toward it, to be in love with that good news, is of all glad things in this world the gladdest thing of all.”
The good news — we are loved. It’s not only good news but the gladdest news of all.
So many are dying for lack of love. Maybe not outwardly but deep inside. Hearts and souls are withering away. Seeking love but never finding it. Perhaps never understanding the deep truth:
That we are made to love
And to be loved
And the deeper truth:
That we are loved, more deeply than we could ever understand.
The song I shared on Sunday put it like this:
You’re worth it,
You can’t earn it
But the cross has proven
That you’re sacred and blameless
Your life has purpose
Sacred and blameless. Two things I never considered myself. Two words I would never use in one of those “describe-yourself-in-five-words” games.
But we are sacred. Sacred because we are loved … because to be loved is to be crystallized and perfect in someone’s eyes. And He who loves us is the essence of perfection. How can anything He loves be less than sacred and beautiful?
So walk with your head held high, and greet others on this sacred journey with respect and honor. For we are all sacred. We are all loved.
And that is truly “the gladdest thing of all.”
